Apprenticeships let you get paid while you learn a trade. Most of your training happens on the job, with short blocks of classroom training along the way.

How it works

You find an employer willing to sponsor you, register as an apprentice with your province or territory, and log your hours. Your wage usually increases as you progress through each level.

What is the Red Seal?

The Red Seal is an interprovincial standard of excellence for many trades. Passing the Red Seal exam lets you work in your trade across Canada with a recognised certification.

Which trades are in demand?

Demand varies by region, but electricians, plumbers, welders, heavy-duty equipment technicians, carpenters and automotive service technicians are consistently sought after.
